Yesterday at the UN Treaty Event in New York, Montenegro and Portugal reaffirmed their commitment to child rights by ratifying OP3 CRC, the newest optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.  With these two newest ratifications, the treaty is only two States away from having the 10 necessary for its entry into force.  The International Coalition welcomes the ratifications from Montenegro and Portugal and is hopeful that 10 ratifications will be reached before the end of 2013.

When in force, OP3 CRC will allow children themselves or their representatives bring cases directly to the Committee on the Rights of the Child about violations to their rights, when national systems are not sufficiently effective or efficient.
